EFFECT OF PRETREATMENT TEMPERATURE ON HYDROGEN PEROXIDE BLEACHING FOR CHEMIMECHANICAL PULPS FROM A BAMBOO SPECIES NEOSINOCALAMUS AFFINIS
Chemimechanical Pulping and bleaching properties of a bamboo species Neosinocalamus affinis (Rendle) Keng f. were reviewed in this paper. The brightness of bleached bamboo chemi-mechanical pulps was usually too low to be used as a furnish in value-added paper products. The effects of various impregnation conditions by using NaOH, Na2SO3 at the temperature of 130oC , 75oC, respectively, on bleaching properties were compared before refining. Single-stage and two-stage hydrogen peroxide bleaching experiments were conducted. Better bleaching response is obtained at the impregnation temperature of 75oC, than 130oC. By using the impregnation of 2% NaOH at 75oC, bleached bamboo pulps achieve the brightness of more than 67% ISO by using 10% hydrogen peroxide single-stage bleaching. Two-stage bleaching responses are some the same as that of single-stage bleaching. At a given hydrogen peroxide application level in single-stage hydrogen peroxide bleaching, the optimal alkali application amount for Neosinocalamus affinis is similar to China fir and Sichuan mulberry, but different from that of Alnus Gremastogyne, which has a higher ratio of alkali to hydrogen peroxide. Bleachability of bamboo species is the worst among the four materials
