STUDY ON BIO-PRETREATMENT CONDITIONS OF COTTON STALK BIO-PRETREATMENT MECHANICAL PULPING

A Bio-pretreatment process was studied in this article for Bio-pretreatment mechanical pulping (Bio-MP) of cotton stalk in lab-scale. The Aspergillus Niger S13 was employed as pretreatment microorganism. The effects of bio-pretreatment with Aspergillus Niger on pulp strength index of handsheets were studied for optimizing of the conditions. And scanning electron microscope (SEM) was employed to analyse cotton stalk chips and pulp physical changes which were brought by fungal pretreatment for studying the mechanism of bio-treatment. The optimized conditions of bio-pretreatment were: ratio of liquor-to-chip, 6:1, inoculation amount, 3%, pH 5, culturing at 20-25℃ for 48h. The pretreated stock was cooked and ceased bio-treatment at 160℃ for 30 minutes and extruded by twin-screw extruder and then refined at the 10% consistency by KRK refiner. The breaking length and ring crush index of bio-pretreatment sample reached 4.45km and 12.0 N·m/g, that was 31% and 33% higher than those of the control sample. The scanning electron microscope analysis of cotton stalk chips and semi-finished pulp showed that the Aspergillus niger treated chips and pulp were looser with more micropores, more flexible, and had more microfibrils than the control sample. The bio-pretreatment for bio-pretreatment mechanical pulping of cotton stalk is provided notably and efficaciously.
