HYPOCHLORITE BLEACHING OF REED SODA PULP AT HIGH TEMPERATURE
Bleaching of reed soda pulp (AP) using hypochlorite at high temperature was carried out in this paper. The effects of effective chlorine (ECl) charge, bleaching temperature and time on pulp brightness, viscosity, as well as Kappa number were investigated. Reed soda pulp reached a lower Kappa number and higher brightness while bleached at high temperature (HT) than it bleached at 38°C as controlled conditions (HC). Pulp brightness can be effectively improved in the following H2O2 bleaching stage. The optimum hypochlorite bleaching conditions for reed soda HTP pulp are, ECl charge 5%, temperature 70°C, and time 15 min. Under this condition, the brightness of HTP bleached pulp reaches 81% ISO, and the Kappa number decreases to 2.6, while the viscosity maintains an acceptable level.
