IMPROVEMENT OF THE CELLULASE ACTIVITIES BY THE SURFACTANT TWEEN80 AND THE NATURAL SURFACTANT GLEDITSIA SAPONIN
Cellulase with high level hydrolysis capability was considerable for the reduction of the cost of bio-alcohol production. An increase in the enzyme activities of three commercial cellulases was achieved through the addition of the chemical surfactant Tween80 and the natural surfactant Gleditsia Saponin to the cellulase solutions. The endoglucanase and cellobiase activities of the enzyme were raised through Tween80 addition, and the exoglucanase and cellobiase activities of the cellulase increased when the surfactant was Gleditsia Saponin. The total enzyme activity (FPA) of the cellulase was higher than the summation of the endoglucanase, exoglucanase and cellobiase activities based on the addition of surfactants, which indicated that the surfactant played a very significant role in the synergism among the three cellulolytic enzymes. The natural surfactant Gleditsia Saponin was added to the mixed cellulase, and the activity of the enzyme also increased. Values of critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the two surfactants (20 °C) were also detected. The natural surfactant Gleditsia Saponin performed better in the improvement of cellulase activities than the surfactant Tween80.
