REVIEW OF INDUSTRY TRENDS AND THEIR IMPACT ON PAPER CHEMISTRY TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT
Recent global economic downturn and competition from alternative media strongly impacted the global paper industry. A global reduction in advertising and reduced demand for packaging, combined with increasing acceptance of electronic media led to a significant global oversupply of paper and paperboard products. State of the industry in a natural way impacts directions of developments in the papermaking chemistry area. Industry trends and their impact on developments in the area of papermaking chemistry are discussed in this review paper.
