CHEMI-MECHANICAL PULPING OF WHEAT STRAW AND BLEACHING OF PULPS
The influence of operational variables in the Chemi-mechanical pulping of wheat straw viz. hydrogen peroxide (2%~5% on oven-dry wheat straw), active alkali (calculated as NaOH, 2%~8% on oven-dry wheat straw), chelating agent (EDTA on oven-dry wheat straw 0.1~0.8%), cooking time (45-90min) and temperature (60~80oC) on the pulp properties were studied in this work, as well as the optical properties of paper sheets made from it. The ECF bleaching sequence was investigated. The optimal pretreatment condition was as follows: active charge 6%, hydrogen peroxide 4%, EDTA 0.5%, time 1h, and temperature 70oC. What’s more, the double pretreatment can got better results with brightness 44.1%ISO. ECF bleaching (D1P3P2, D as an activation stage) can provide bleached pulp with brightness 72.5%.
