EFFECT OF MATERIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SIX DIFFERENT LARCHES UNDER THE SAME PLANTING CONDITIONS ON THE PULP AND PAPER PROPERTIES
The shortage of wood fiber source is still one of the main problems to limit the development of Chinese pulp and paper industry, especially for the softwood fibers. Larch is a kind of important softwood fiber sources, and has many advantages, such as fast-growth, wide-adaptation, less planting diseases and insect pests, and agamic growth. Therefore, an important issue for papermakers is how to apply the fiber source of larches reasonably and efficiently. In this paper, six different kinds of larches with the same tree age were obtained from the same planting site. The characteristics of raw materials were analyzed, and the pulp fiber morphology and beating properties were determined. The results show that there are some excellent correlations between the material characteristics of six different larches and their pulp (or paper) properties. The higher the 1%NaOH extractive is, the lower the pulp yield is. The paper tensile strength is higher when the pulp fiber becomes thinner, but the bulk and the tear strength of paper sheets are lower.
