STUDY OF REFINING PROPERTIES AND MECHANISM OF POPLAR APMP
The refining properties of poplar APMP were investigated. The result showed that fibres were mainly defibreed from the lamella during an APMP pulping process, and the fibres were stiff. During the refining process, the APMP fibres did not swell and fibrillate; however, the fibres were easily broken and formed fragments. The paper’s tensile index increased as the beating degree increased, which was due to lots of hydrogen bonds formed between fibres and fine pieces. The tear index increased as the beating degree increased, and it reached maximum when the beating degree was about 61○SR, and then it began to decrease. These results showed that the bond between the fibres was the main factor to affect the tear index, then the fibres’ length. The sheet density increased and the opacity decreased a little as the beating degree rose.
