INVESTIGATION ON Mg(OH)2 PARTIALLY SUBSTITUTED POPLAR APMP
Mg(OH)2 was used to partially substitute NaOH as an alkali source of poplar APMP process. The changes of pulp properties, including physical and optical properties, fiber characteristics and pollution loads of effluent, were investigated. The results showed that the bulk and light scattering coefficient of pulp handsheet can be improved, while the physical strength and brightness have a decreasing trend with the increasing of substitution level of Mg(OH)2 for NaOH. And the content of fiber fines in the poplar APMP increased after Mg(OH)2 substitution. The fiber quality analysis illustrated that the average fiber length, kinking number and curl index decreased in the resulting pulp. The pollution load of the Mg(OH)2 partially substituted APMP is lower than that of NaOH-based APMP process, which resulted from the lower alkalinity of impregnation solution. The application of partial substitution of Mg(OH)2 for NaOH as alkaline source can impart the resulting pulp more variability.
