ADVANCED TREATMENT OF PAPERMAKING EFFLUENT BY FENTON/UV-FENTON METHOD
The pulping and papermaking industry has generated a considerable amount of pollutants characterized by biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and color. Stringent regulations have thus been established by the various governmental authorities. In China, the new environmental guidelines on discharge have been executed since August 2008. Advanced treatment of paper mill effluent by Fenton /UV- Fenton method was studied. Effect of several conditions, such as H2O2/Fe2+, H2O2 dosage and pH, on the removal CODcr and color were discussed. The combination of Fenton and photo-Fenton reactions has been proved to be highly effective for the advanced treatment of such a type of wastewaters.
