BIOHYDROCARBONS:NEXT GENERATION LIQUID FUELS FROM LIGNOCELLULOSIC BIOMASS
The next generation liquid fuel – biohydrocarbons (gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel from biomass) have demonstrated many advantages over bioethanol. The biohydrocarbons can be produced through gasification followed by Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, pyrolysis and subsequent upgrading of bio-oil, liquid phase reforming of sugars, decomposition and hydrogenation of lignin, and oligomerization of alkenes derived from biomass. This paper reviews the status quo and future directions of current technologies for biohydrocarbons production from lignocellulose.
