SOLVOLYSIS LIQUEFACTION OF OIL PALM EMPTY FRUIT BUNCH FIBRES USING DIFFERENT SOLVENTS
In this study, different organic solvent were used to liquefy oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) fibres via solvolysis liquefaction process. The solvents used in this study were arranged according to their efficiency in term of conversion yield as follows: EG > water > ethanol > acetone > toluene. The results showed that the conversion yield of the liquefaction of EFB fibres depended very much on the dipole moment of the solvent used. The greater the dipole moment of the solvent, the higher the conversion yield of the solvolysis process. Different solvents would produce oil product with different chemical fraction.
