PREPARATION OF D-XYLOSE THROUGH HYDROLYSIS OF WHEAT STRAW IN HYDROCHLORIC ACID AND SATURATED FORMIC ACID REACTION SYSTEM
Wheat straw consists of 18~26% pentosan (the main component of hemicellulose) content on dry solid (DS) basis and has the potential to serve as a low cost feedstock for production of high value-added production xylitol by d-xylose fermentation. D-xylose can be obtained by the hydrolysis of hemicelullosic fraction of lignocellulosic materials in hydrochloric acid and saturated formic acid solvent. The optimal pretreatment conditions were determined by the comparison of total xylose yield pretreatment at different temperature, concentration of HCl and the ratio of solvent to solid in hydrochloric acid and saturated formic acid reaction system. The experimental results showed that the maximum yield of d-xylose in formic acid system were concentration of HCl of 10%,hydrolysis reaction temperature of 65℃, hydrolysis reaction time of 0.5 h and the ratio of liquid/solid of 24:1; and the maximum yield of d-xylose was 89.61% (xylose/ pentosan).
