EFFECT OF AUTO-HYDROLYSIS AND GREEN LIQUOR COOKING ON THE ENZYMATIC HYDROLYSIS OF MIXED HARDWOOD
Mixed southern hardwood was pretreated by auto-hydrolysis or auto-hydrolysis followed by green liquor cooking. The effects of pretreatment on saccharification were investigated by enzymatic hydrolysis. The results indicate that the degradation of xylan and mannan is obvious during auto-hydrolysis. Glucan is rather stable in either auto-hydrolysis or green liquor cooking process. Green liquor cooking of auto-hydrolyzed hardwood is an effective way to improve sugar conversion efficiency in enzymatic hydrolysis. The total sugar conversion based on wood sugar reaches about 70%.
