APPLICATIONS OF ECF-BLEACHED WHEAT STRAW KRAFT PULP IN FINE PAPER

Non-wood fibers such as bamboo and wheat straw have been playing important roles in the pulp and paper industry in China. In this study, an ECFwheat straw kraft pulp was compared with a bleached hardwood kraft pulp (BHKP) as the short fiber in fine paper production. The response to refining of the wheat straw together with its effect on paper properties was examined. Implications of using wheat straw on paper chemical consumption were studied as well. Results showed that the ECFbleached wheat straw kraft pulp behaved similarly as the BHKP pulp, in terms of drainage and retention, and paper properties.
