APPLICATION OF CATIONIC POLYMER MODIFIED WOLLASTONITE AS FILLER
Particle size distribution, shape characteristics, ζ dynamic potential and other physical properties of wollastonite were studied. Natural wollastonite was modified by cationic polymer including cationic starch and cationic polyacrylamide. The difference of strength properties and filler retention rate between wollastonite and modified wollastonite filled paper was determined. The results showed that wollastonite was electronegative, the absolute value of ζ potential was as high as 19 mV. Only by modification of wollastonite with cationic plymer can one reduce ζ potential. Consequently, electrostatic repulsion between filler and fibers was diminished. The tear strength, burst strength and tensile strength of the modified wollastonite filled paper were more greatly increased than wollastonite filled papers.
