MODIFICATION OF PAE AND THE APPLICATIONS FOR PAPER STRENGTHENING
Low-AOX PAE was synthesized and modified by grafting with acrylic acid to introduce double bonds. This study found that the pulps added with modified unsaturated PAE resin at different pH had different Zeta potential. The modified PAE had higher paper wet strength efficiency and lower AOX discharge. Moreover, it can be cured by UV ray instead of high temperature curing. The effects of saturated PAE, unsaturated PAE resin and PAE/CMC binary system on the strength of paper were studied. The wet strength retention of paper with modified PAE resin (UV curing) could reach 34.9%. When 1% PAE and 0.3% CMC were added in paper furnish as binary system, the paper wet tensile retention was 28.4% (high-temperature curing).
