APPLICATION OF POLYVINYLAMINE AS PAPER STRENGTHENING AGENT
PVAm (Polyvinylamine) is a water-soluble polymer which has more free hydroxyl than fiber and possesses positive charge, and thus can satisfy the need of pulp. It can substitute the cationic starch in papermaking. In this paper, PVAm was studied as the paper wet-end additive. After appending, the wet-end properties, for example, the Zeta, drainage and retention, were discussed and compared with the properties of cationic starch appending. The pilot testing that PVAm substituted the cationic starch was studied, too. The results showed that the more dosage of PVAm there was, the higher the positive charge and retention of pulp was, and the drainage of pulp was much better when the positive charge of the pulp remained negative. It can reduce the cost of the papermaking when PVAm is used to substitute the cationic starch, and the shrinkage of CD was reduced obviously when the other properties of paper keep constant as the use of cationic starch.
