THE EFFECT OF WET-END CHEMISTRY CHARACTER ON SIZING PROCESS WITH CATIONIC ROSIN SIZES

Wet-end chemistry characters of pulp and cationic rosin sizes influence the sizing effect directly during the sizing process. Combined with wet-end chemistry knowledge, in this paper the effect of pulp and cationic rosin sizes wet-end chemistry character on sizing process was discussed in the following aspects: carboxyl content of pulp, fiber contact angle, surface charge and stability of cationic rosin sizes. Results revealed that the sizing effect of cationic rosin sizes got worse gradually for the increase of sizing fiber contact angle and pulp surface charge at high pH value, the decrease of rosin size charge and the flocculation of rosin sizes under alkaline condition. All these provide foundation for obtaining rosin sizes with better performance and control of wet-end sizing behavior.
