STUDY ON FLAME RETARDANT MODIFICATION OF Al(OH)3/BL-FLAME RETARDANT ON PAPER FIBER
Halogen-flame retardants, which have been widely used in fiber flame retardant, are being substituted by the new type flame retardants gradually for the toxic smoke and corrosive gas are produced in halogen-flame retardants combustion process. The environment friendly flame retardants, aluminum hydroxide and BL-flame retardant were employed in this research. The optimum fiber flame retardant process conditions and treatment method of aluminum hydroxide were confirmed. The results indicated that the best flame retardancy, brightness and opacity were reached under the condition as follows: aluminum hydroxide 30%, silane 2.5%, isopropanol 0.5% and modified guar gum 1%. But the tensile index, tear index and burst index of the paper decreased dramaticlly under this condition. Considering physical properties of the paper, the dosage of aluminum hydroxide should be less than 20%. Three flame retardant treatment types, double-sided coating, internal addition coating and spray can coating, were comparatively studied. The best flame resistance was achieved by double-sided coating. Two stage flame retardant treatment of aluminum hydroxide and BL-flame retardant was confirmed. The results indicated that the paper carbonization length decreased to 5cm, which reached the first grade national standard of flame retarding, with 10% aluminum hydroxide and 8% BL-flame retardant solution infused.
