EFFECT OF DIFFERENT BEATING EQUIPMENTS ON PREPARATION AND QAULITY OF CHEMICAL PULP SECONDARY FINES
After proper pretreatment of chemical pulp by Valley beater, high-consistency refiner(HCR) and PFI mill, fines were prepared by a 200-mesh screen from the pulp. The effect of its morphology, quantity, viscosity, and surface charge was studied in this paper. The result shows that the PFI fines and HCR fines consist mainly of a coarser fraction rich in fibrils, and the Valley fines have middle fibril as well as flakes. This is why the PFI fines and HCR fines have higher specific surface, surface charge and swelling than those found in Valley fines. Both fines types affect paper properties, such as improving density, tensile strength, tear strength and folding endurance, and decreasing air permeability and whiteness. PFI fines and HCR fines are superior to Valley fines because of particle size, shape and composition.
