THERMOGRAVIMETRIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PAPER AND ITS APPLICATION IN THERMAL ANALYSIS OF AGING PAPER

Thermogravimetric characteristics of paper and activation energy of thermal decomposition were studied by using thermal gravimetric analysis. The changes of thermal decomposition activation energy and thermal stability of papers after aging treatment were investigated as well. The results showed that: paper pyrolysis process could be divided into three phases: moisture desorption; cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin thermal decomposition; filler decomposition. Cellulose and hemicellulose were pyrolyzed completely at heating temperature in the range of 150~400°C. The pyrolysis activation energy of paper was 172.06kJ/mol which was calculated by using Flynn-Wall-Ozawa method. The pyrolysis activation energy of the paper after treatment was greater than that of untreated paper. Additionally, the pyrolysis activation energy of paper rose with the increase of aging temperature and time. The thermal stability of paper after aging declined, and the influence of mutative temperature on the degradation reaction rate increased with increasing activation energy. Finally, the anticipated goal of this paper was that we could establish a judgment and analytical method of the aging degree and thermal stability of paper according to pyrolysis activation energy changes of the paper.
