EFFECT OF ALKALINE PEROXIDE TREATMENT ON THE ANIONIC GROUPS OF ASPEN P-RC APMP FIBRES
The aspen P-RC APMP was treated with alkaline peroxide and the anionic groups of the resulting pulps were evlulated. The results indicated that peroxide treatment could increase carboxyl acid and surface charge contents of fibres, and these contents increased with increasing dosages of sodium hydroxide and peroxide. According to the 31P-NMR results, some new carboxyl groups could form in lignin moiety during peroxide treatment, which accounted for a part of new anionic groups in pulp. XPS analysis showed that the coverage of surface lignin and extractives decreased after alkaline peroxide treatment, but the C4 ratio increased, which referred to the content of surface carboxylic acid.
