EFFECT OF HIGH SOLIDS CONTENT COATINGS ON PROPERTIES OF COATED ART PAPER
Development of coating technique in coated art paper requires improvement of higher-performance coatings. Coating products with high solid-content, higher calcium carbonate and lower levels of binder are generally expected in this field. Continuous improvements in coating technology have placed stricter demands on the function of coatings. In the present work, the effects of coatings with high solid-content on properties of coatings and the finished papers were studied. The results showed that the printing properties of finishing paper were influenced somewhat as follows: the paper gloss and print gloss were improved and the brightness of finishing paper was improved as well, and picking strength of finishing paper increased up to the maximum when the solid content dosage was 68%-70%. However, the ink absorbability of finishing paper declined. Finally, the Scanning Electron Microscope analysis showed that the roughness of finishing paper decreased. In conclusion, the high solid-content coatings that were used in the coated art paper had a positive effect on the printing properties of the finishing paper.
