INFLUENCE OF NANO-SILICA ON PROPERTIES OF COATINGS AND COATED INK-JET PRINTING PAPER

Nano-silica is favorable pigment for color ink-jet printing paper and its properties are different from common pigments. In this paper, nano-silica dosages influencing the properties of coated paper and ink-jet printing image are discussed. With the increasing dosage of nano-silica, the viscosity of coatings rose while the PH reduced. The contact angle, brightness and gloss properties of coated paper increased first and then decreased. As the dosage of nano-silica was 80% (relative to PCC pigment), they reached maximum with their value being 7.95°,91.8% and 6.8% respectively. Meanwhile the color density, circular inkblot and pinnate inkblot of the ink-jet printing image got best effects and the chromatic aberration reached minimum value 2.04. In sum, nano-silica dosage is the most important factor which influences the printing image properties. Raising the nano-silica dosage can enhance the ink-jet image effects especially color density and circular inkblot. Furthermore, the optimal nano-silica ratio in coating formulation and the most realistic and brightness ink-jet printing image properties are obtained.
