THE QUALITATIVE/QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS WITH SPECTROSCOPY FOR RESIDUAL ALKYL KETENE DIMMER (AKD) IN AKD SIZED COATING BASE PAPER
In this paper, the problem of residual AKD in coating base paper was studied. The coating base paper was kept at a constant temperature and in a humidity room since it was produced. The AKD was dissolved into dichloromethane (DCM) within a range of 400ppm-1000ppm (n=7), and the ultraviolet absorbance of DCM solution was measured with an ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS) spectrophotometer respectively; then based on absorbance data, a good linear relationship between mass concentration (C) and ultraviolet absorbance (A) was achieved by the means of Minitab 15 data processing software; the regression equation of standard curve was “C/ppm=1328A/abs- 36.68 (r=99.5%). With time-shift, the coating base paper was extracted by DCM. The measured absorbance values of filtered extraction with UV-VIS spectrophotometer were substituted in the regression equation to calculate the residual AKD in coating base paper, and graphed in a proportion of residual AKD-time plot. At the same time, the changing trend of Cobb values in AKD sized coating base paper was explored. Some dried extraction was analyzed with a fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer compared with SADTLER of AKD. The results indicated that the extraction by DCM of AKD sized coating base paper accurately showed the residual AKD; the proportion of residual AKD to its additive dosage was constant since 10th day (50.7%); the changing trends of the residual AKD percentage and the Cobb values with time-varying were identical with each other. By comparison with the coating base paper made without white water in laboratory, it could be found that the closure of white water system was beneficial to improve the AKD sizing effect.
