A STUDY ON REPLACING LATEX WITH STARCH IN COATING COLOR
The point of this study was how to replace latex with starch in a coating color. We adopted two methods to add more starch in place of some of the latex in the coating color. One method was that we wrapped GCC with gelled starch, based on new technology, putting the modified GCC into coating color as pigment. The other method entailed converting the starch into a gelled condition and then added it into the coating color. The experiments not only advanced the water retention and rheology of coating color, improving coating process runnability, but also improving the ink absorption of coated paper. The results indicated that the modified coated paper had better optical and printing properties, when the usage of coating starch was 12 parts, the latex was 5 parts, and the modified coated paper had upstanding optical and printing properties. Even the dusting and ink performance were better during the printing process.
