THE INFLUENCE OF THE DIGITAL PRINTING PAPER SURFACE MICROSTRUCTURE ON THE COLOR GAMUT

The surface microstructure of digital printing paper mainly consists of resin coating, pigment coating, fibre and paper filler. The wetting, absorption and diffusion of ink on paper coating are of great significance for good digital printing quality. The color gamut of the paper for digital printing is mainly determined by the surface properties of the paper, which include roughness, glossiness and porosity, and to some extent they affect the distribution of pigment particles on the surface. The coating and calendaring processes are varied to alter the physical properties. The properties determine the distribution of pigment particles, perhaps lead to color losses, and then affect the color gamut. After coating and calendaring processes, the series of paper was printed by Epson7880 proofer and their color gamut was plotted by MATLAB software. The results demonstrated that the color gamut became wider as the smoothness increased and the surface porosity decreased.
