EFFECT OF STYRENE-ACRYLATE MICRO-EMULSION ON PROPERTIES OF COATING AND COATED PAPER

High solid content styrene-acrylate emulsion and micro emulsion which have the same copolymerized components were synthesized, the influence of two emulsions on dynamic viscoelasticity, viscosity, water retention value of the coating and coated paper properties were studied. The results indicate that the particle size of the micro emulsion is less than 100 nm, viscosity increases and water absorbing capacity drops. Compared with styrene-acrylate emulsion, the coating containing micro emulsion has higher viscosity and water retention value, and the system could bear greater stress because the interaction between the components of the coating is reinforced. Surface strength and water resistance of the coated paper containing micro-emulsion increase, and the ink absorption is improved.
