RISK ANALYSIS OF DOMINO EFFECT TO PETROLEUM CHEMICAL INSTALLATIONS

The domino effect may be triggered when the fire or explosion occurs on major hazard installations. Most of the past risk assessment studies can only deal with the secondary escalation of domino effect, but the further escalation of the secondary accident is often neglected. In order to overcome the shortage of the past studies, a systematic quantitative assessment methodology is proposed by the considering the feature and uncertainty of the escalation process of domino effect. Three main aspects are included which are impact probability model of domino effect, analysis of joint influence of the three escalation parameters and risk characterization of domino effect. By the new methodology, the escalation of domino effect in chemical industry paries can be analyzed and the escalation morphology is demonstrated by the visualization of the risk caused by domino effect. The simulated risk cloud figure gives a supplementary way to prevent the domino effect in petroleum chemical industry.
