FLACS CODE BASED CONSEQUENCE SIMULATION TECHNOLOGY FOR ACCIDENTAL RELEASE OF LIQUEFIED HYDROCARBONS
Several popular CFD softwares are surveyed and compared with regards to mathematical model validation, run efficiency, engineering application achievements and other performances, thereby FLACS code developed by GexCon AS, Norway is selected to simulate gas dispersion and explosion resulted from liquefied hydrocarbon accidental release. The theory and capability of FLACS are firstly introduced, then numerical simulation results performed for an anonymous huge LNG terminal in China are illustrated, in which pool spread, hazardous gas concentration and deflagration development contour are explained, whose practical value in process safety management and emergency response planning are also pointed out. The engineering practices show that CFD software FLACS which has been validated by large scale tests can run fast and be used to simulate disturbed flow and stratified gas cloud caused by atmospheric turbulence, buildings and structures, layout arrangement or other ground patterns, moreover flame acceleration and gas deflagration overpressure activated by obstacles engulfed in the cloud and boundary confinement can also be computed accurately. So FLACS code could be promoted and applied widely and thoroughly in engineering design and risk management.
