Risk Assessment and Preventive Measures of Liquefied Natural Gas Terminal

As the worlds fastest-growing kind of fuel, liquefied natural gas (LNG) shares a large proportion of global energy structure. LNG has characteristics such as inflammability, explosion hazard, easy to evaporation, static electricity concentration and thermal expansion. Once leak, it is easy to cause fire and explosion, resulting in serious casualties and property losses. Therefore, the safety of LNG terminal must be taken seriously, the potential risk of the LNG terminal fire and explosion should be assessed, the uncertainty of the risk of fire and explosion should be realized. In this paper, based on hazard sources theory of safety systems engineering and according to risk analysis and evaluation procedures, comprehensive risk assessment of the LNG terminal storage tank of fire and explosion was carried out. This paper will make a quantitative analysis on the evaluation of human damage caused by boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion (BLEVE), including the determination of the fireballs diameter and duration and thermal radiation. It is beneficial to establish the degree of the risk, make recommendations for improvement and provide a basis for risk reduction measures.
