THE CHALLENGES AND PROGRESS OF STRENGTH DESIGN OF OIL AND GAS PIPING ON SHORE

Many national important pipeline projects inevitably cross poor geological areas which trigger a series of problems such as pipeline location, laying method, slope design and permafrost protection in china. Therefore, ensuring the safe operation of pipeline which crosses poor geological areas is a challenge of strength design of oil and gas piping. This paper describes the study of pipeline subjected to permafrost, mine subsidence, fault, seismic waves and landslide. Then the key problems and the difficulties of pipeline in the special environment mentioned above are summarized. In addition, with pipeline develop to large diameter and high strength and peoples awareness of the response characteristics of pipeline under load, improve the oil and gas piping design factor become a development trend. This paper describes the study of improve the design factor and proposes that design factor should be calculated by reliability theory.
