EXPLOSION CHARACTERISTICS OF LPG-AIR MIXTURES IN 7L CLOSED CYLINDRICAL VESSEL
The experimental study of explosive combustion of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas)-air mixture at ambient initial temperature was performed in 7L closed cylindrical vessels with side ignition, at various fuel/air ratios within the flarnmabitity limits. The combustion process of the mixtures was recorded by a high-speed video camera in order to understand the fundamental behavior of a LPG explosion. The transient pressure-time was used to determined several explosion characteristics of LPG-air: the peak explosion pressure, and the maximum of pressure rise. All explosion parameters were strongly dependent on fuel/air ratio. The explosion characteristics of LPG - air mixtures are discussed in comparison with data referring to the main components of LPG: propane and butane, obtained in identical conditions. The ignition position has a great effect on the process of flame propagation in 7L closed cylindrical vessels, and then on the peak explosion pressure.
