Preparation of Polyurethane Nanocomposites for use as Electromagnetic Interference Shielding Materials

Polyurethane (PU) nanocomposites containing 0.1-10 wt% CNT/Fe3O4 hybrids were successfully synthesized. The mechanical, electrical, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding properties of the nanocomposite were systematically measured. The dynamic mechanical results indicated that the storage modulus of PU-CNT/Fe3O4 composites at 10 wt% filler loading is about 3.7 times larger than the original PU in the temperature range of 50-100°C. The PU nanocomposites show excellent EMI shielding effect (EMI SE), and the EMI SE of the nanocomposites increased as the CNT/Fe3O4 content increased. The composites filled with 10 wt% CNT/Fe3O4 hybrids could block about 90% of incident signal in X-band (8.2-12.4 GHz).
