Recycling System for Fiber-Reinforced Plastics

Composites have been used in various industries (e.g., marine boats, bathtubs, construction, and automobiles), due to their heat resistance, corrosion resistance, and mechanical strength. Global use of composite materials rapidly grew from 158,800 tons in 1960 to 6.1 million tons in 2004. Today, it is difficult to find an industry in which composite materials are not used. However, the issue of recycling arises with composite products that reach end of their useful life, especially with those produced by thermoset polymers, which do not melt when heated.
