Deflections and Vibrations of the ITER ECRH Upper Launcher
The ECRH system at ITER is composed of gyrotrons, transmission lines to the torus and two types of launchers injecting the mm-wave power into the plasma. While the Equatorial Launcher heats the plasma center the four Upper Launchers can focus the power to localized current drive allowing the stabilization of neoclassical tearing modes and the sawtooth instability. The cantilevered design of upper port being fixed to the vacuum vessel and the correspondent plugs gives a spring like system with a length of 10 m and a very small gap to the neighboring components close to 10 mm. Vibrations and deflections during regular operation and disruptions are therefore a key design driver for the structural system.
