Database Sustanability for Sustainable Society Based on Reliable Science Data
Science data have large influence not only on academic studies but also on industry, finance, politics and international relations. However, people pay much less attention to origin and reliability of those data than to those of economy-finance data. In consequence, researchers of databases do not get reasonable support nor appreciation from society as proper reward. Database sustainability is an urgent issue to discuss. Several examples of upgrading ideas such as dynamic and integrated database, standards for database interface for database systems, quality assurance system with internet and the life cycle assessment for a database are proposed in the present talk. At the time of present upswing of social interest toward sustainable development, we should stress importance of science data and should intend to attain database sustainability. There already exist many completed databases and now integration of mem is important in order to make more valuable contributions. For that, firstly we have to establish common standards for construction and use of databases encompassing multilateral fields such as science, technology, economics, politics and culture. Also quality assurance is the key for database. Then, effort for sustainability of database is considered. To increase influence of a database, the life cycle assessment of database might be one thing to try. It can be considered as upgraded challenge of critical evaluation. It is hoped to start a new conceptual approach for next generation database from Asia, hopefully from AMDS.
