Materials Data Sharing and Service Safety Assessment Platform in MSAF
Background of the project Materials performance and safety assessment is an important issue for public and national security. It depends on sufficient scientific data and various assessment methods. Some organizations and projects have emphasized on convenient utilization of materials scientific data, including Web-based European Fusion Materials Database, Japan NIMS Materials Database Station, Korea Metals Bank, a commercial materials category MatWeb (USA) and so on. In China, Materials Service Safety Assessment Facility (MSAF), one of the twelve key scientific and technological infrastructure projects during the National Eleventh Five-Year Development Plan period, has been approved by Chinese government in 2007. The purpose of building up the MSAF is to understand the key scientific issues in materials service safety, i.e. the scientific problems in scale, environment, time dimensions as well as the methods of service safety assessment Meanwhile, it is to improve the test and safety assessment abilities of full-scale materials/structures, and to establish the criterions and standards of service safety for the key engineering materials and structures by means of constructing the world-class research testing facilities open to the international scientific society.
