Web-Enabled Online Analytical Processing for Intelligent Business Decision-Making
Within a business-intelligence (BI) system, online analytical processing (OLAP) enables data from a data warehouse (DW) environment to be provided to users in a usable format Such analytic data is an important competitive asset,presenting strategic information for decision-making. OLAP provides the channel that connects the online user and online data. Through this channel the user is connected with the information needed to perform many analytical activities including drill down and roll up, reporting,and various modes of data visualization. Web-enabled OLAP permits access to decision support data without being limited to heavy client tools. It can be quickly deployed and made accessible to reach thousands of users in a distributed environment with minimal cost In this paper we discuss OLAPs role in intelligent business decision making and how it can be delivered via Web technology to enhance the user experience. A case study is presented to demonstrate various features in Web-enabled OLAP.
