Selecting ERP from a Business Process Perspective: a Best Practice Based Framework
Enterprise resource planning (ERP) has been widely embraced by firms in order to achieve operational and strategic outcomes. Selecting the right ERP is critical important for the success of ERP implementation projects. While existing research on ERP selection has been mainly focused on affecting factors,there is scant study addressing this issue from a process perspective. Although lots of ERP projects failed,there are also a number of successful ones. In this study,we conducted interviews with managers in three companies in China revealed mat the potential of best practice in ERP selection. Further,this paper provides an ERP selection framework based on best practice which attempts to make advantage of the successful experiences. The framework is composed of three steps: scope definition at the strategic level,gap analysis at the tactical level and data simulation at the operational level. Finally,we demonstrate the utility of the framework using an example abstracted from the real world.
