Breaking the Block Cipher PUFFIN for WID Tags
PUFFIN is proposed by H. Cheng, H. M. Heys and C. Wang in DSD 2008 for embedded applications such as RFID tags. It is a 32-round SP-network block cipher with block size 64 bits and key size 128 bits. In this paper, we give the first cryptanalytic results for the full 32-round PUFFIN. At first, we present the differential cryptanalysis and recover the 128-bit key for the full 32-round PUFFIN with 264 chosen plaintexts, 2112 32-round encryptions and 28 6-bit counters. Moreover we give the linear cryptanalysis on the full 32-round PUFFIN with 262 known plaintexts, 235 counters, 293.7 32-round encryptions.
