State Machine Skip Fault Attack on Elliptic Curve Cryptosystems
In this paper, we present a new type of fault attacks on elliptic curve scalar multiplications: State Machine Skip Fault Attack. These attacks do not exploit faults on the data path of cryptographic circuits but the control-path such as finite state machine, and produce fault points which do not leave the curve. The Montgomery Ladder method with coherency check would prove to be vulnerable to our attacks.
