Joint Network and Channel Coding for Two Way Relay Channel
In this paper, we investigate the application of Repeat-accumulate (RA) codes to two way relay networks (TWRNs) where two users want to exchange information via a relay. We proposed two different scenarios based on joint network coding and channel coding for TWRNs where the exchange of independent information consists of three time slots. In the first two slots, two users transmit RA encoded data respectively. In the third slot, the relay decodes the received information and transmits bitwise XOR-ed packets with RA coding in the first scenario, while in the second scenario, the relay estimates the RA coded symbols of each node without decoding and transmits the XOR-ed symbol packets. Unlike the traditional scenario, the introduced decoding algorithms do not require the relay to decode the whole codeword without errors and the complexity of RA decoding is reduced. The maximum-likelihood (ML) joint decision rule for transmission without channel coding is also derived.
