Analysis of Swarm Intelligence Algorithms

Swarm Intelligence (SI) has been frequently used in wireless sensor networks (WSN) recently. SI algorithms focus on balancing two fundamental conflict performance indexes of WSN: sensing ability and energy cost. Each node in SI system is considered simple, asynchronous and homogeneous. Though each individual is simple in a SI system, the whole swarm can perform complex task if work together. Work has been done in the research of SI algorithm, yet efficient method to evaluate SI algorithms or to optimize the algorithms hardly exists. In this paper, we use a modified multiple targets tracking method to capture a swarm consisting of foraging robots, and then evaluate the foraging SI algorithm. At last, Markov property and the Master Equation are used to suggest algorithm improvements. Experiment results indicate efficiency and correctness of our method.
