CO2 Capture with Combustion Waste in Korea
One of the options of CO captu re is the accelerated carbonation of industrial waste. The chemical process of carbonation of those materials and extraction characteristics were studies. Several target materials were screened based upon the following charaaeristics: solid. inorganic alkali (ph>8 in water), uncarbonated Ca and Mg contents, and domestic production. Another screening point was the transportation distance between the waste production facilities and CO2 sources. Candidate waste materials are coal ash and municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) ash. Coal ash and MSWI ash are produced at the same location of CO2 sources. CO2 capture potentials were estimated from their chemical compositions (Ca and Mg amount) and acid neutralization capacity (ANC) measurement. From the CO2 capture potential and annual production. the total amount of CO2 removal by carbonation of industrial combustion waste in Korea could be estimated.
