Strength and Deformation Characterization of Municipal Solid Waste at Beijing Landfill China

Based on the development of Environmental Geotechnics, it discussed the properties, composition and classifications of municipal solid waste. Much attention is directed to the strength and deformation characteristics of solid waste. The municipal solid waste at a suburban LandfiH in Beijing was investigated in laboratory tests including sieve analyses, triaxial compression tests to investigate the strength properties of municipal solid waste. The tests show that a larger distribution of strength parameters and the shear strength of solid waste is relatively high. The deformation characterization of solid waste is studied. The solid waste is with a small deformation compared with the general soil. The deformation of solid waste generated by loading is affected not only with the state. but also filling time. The deformation curve can be divided into two types: one is concave curve for the filling time short the other one is on the convex curve for the filling time longer. The settlement of Jandfills needs to beconsidered in the design.
