Allelopathic Activities of Exudates from Potamogeton Pectinatus on the Growth of Scenedesmus Obliquus and Toxic Microcystis Aeruginosa at Different Algal Cell Density
In order to investigating the effect of the green and blue algae and their different algal cell densities on the allelopathic activities of Potamogetion pectinatus, the aIJelopathic inhibitions of P. pectinatus on planktonic algae Scenedesmus obliquus and Microcystis aeruginosa were studied in this paper. By comparing the intensive changes of allelopathy at different initial concentrations of algae in laboratory exudation experiments, algal intensity threshold values under the allelopathy from this submerged plant were evaluated It was found that allelopathic efTects depended on the initial algal concentration and the algae species. The allelopathic effects of P. pectinatus on S. obliquus at different initial concentrations were not the same though all tests showed algal growth inhibition. The exudates of 2.5 g . L-I P. pectinatus significantly inhibited the growth of S. obliquus at the all five initial algal cell concentrations after 3 or 6 days incubation. The growth inhibition rates of S. obliquus it the initial concentration of 106, 107 and 108 ind . L-I were more higher than that of 104 and 105 ind . L-I after 3 days incubation, and after 6 days incubation, the growth inhibition rates were all increased except the initial algal cell density of 108 ind . L-1. The allelopathic effects of P. pectinatus on M. aeruginosa were a little weaker than that on S. obliquus after 3 days incubation, and the inhibition rates increased after 6 days incubation. The exudates of 2.5 g . L-I P. pectinatus exerted significant growth inhibition on M. aeruginosa at the initial concentrations of 107 and 108 ind . L-I, while weaker effects were observed when the algal initial concentrations were below this range. Comparing with the results of S. obliquus and M. aeruginosa , S. obliquus of a wide concentration range could be inhibited by P. pectinatus, while M. aeruginosa was not as sensitive as S. obliquus do.
