Optimizing Process Water Use at Two Large Australian Manufacturing Companies
This paper presents a process water use optimization study conducted at two large Australian manufacturing companies - that are contrasting in terms of their respective products. The study was carried out with the aid of commercially available water optimization software. It involved an investigation of different process streams and simulations of optimal freshwater use. Water reuse constraints were also clearly identified to prevent mixing of totally different wastewater streams. The results show that by optimizing process water use, significant reductions in freshwater consumption and wastewater discharge can be achieved by both companies.
