Development and Validation of a Numerical Model of Subsurface Flow Constructed Wetlands

In this paper a three dimensional numerical model was developed for modeling solute removal in subsurface flow constructed wetlands. The numerical model was applied to modeling TP removal in the horizontal subsurface constructed wetland (HSSF) and the wavy subsurface constructed wetland (WSSF). The simulated values of TP at the outlet had a good agreement with the experimental results in both HSSF and WSSF. The numerical model could be used as a practical tool for design and operation optimization.
